DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH
Introduction
English language opens the window to the world, and so has earned considerable significance in today’s global era. In order to be successful in any field, English is regarded as a prerequisite language. It is a gateway skill to various fields of study, research and employment.
It accelerates the process of honing one’s skills and personality. English literature also helps in knowing various cultures, which widens our intellectual horizons. It helps in understanding life, human nature, human psychology and variegated avenues of human tendencies. The Department of English offers an in-depth study of literary and cultural traditions in English and teaches analytic, critical and communication skills, with a particular focus on written and spoken academic English.
The department of English has established in September 2000. The Special English department has started in 2001. The main dictum of the department is to enhance students’ communicative competence and to make them efficient users of English language. The department believes that enhancement of communicative competence leads to the empowerment of students for facing global challenges successfully in diverse situations. In order to achieve this goal, the department conducts varied activities and encourages participation of the students leading to their overall development. The Department believes in commitment and team work.
Vision
The Department of English sensitizes students towards language and literature learning, thereby fostering skills to promote future professionals in the fields of education, research, business, and publishing. The department envisions creating skilled human resource in the field of English language and literature.
Mission of the Department:
- To enhance the communicative competence of the students.
- To appreciate and analyze literary texts from various perspectives.
- To urge students to perceive themselves as professionals in teaching, publishing, or research.
- To enable the students to acquire communicative competence so that they make quality use of language as a means of creating conducive human environment imbued with vibrant interpersonal bonding, common understanding leading to global harmony.
- To develop interest among the students regarding literature as a fine art.
- To inculcate aesthetic sense and human values among the students.
